Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

Thinking about this verse tonight, “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14  We’re not as unique and long-lasting as we’d like to think.  The devil knows men inside and out, their desires, their feelings….  He knows how to display sin through rose colored glasses.  He has one goal, to keep as many as possible from being saved before they die.

We don’t know how long we have, and then this life is over.  It’s oh so easy to push that thought away and instead focus on the next task at hand, the next exciting thing in your life.  But to what gain?  And to what an eternal loss!  We all know, the older we get, the faster our lives seem to be careening.  We’re just a breath here on earth!

I don’t want my vision glazed over when I see sin.  I don’t want to be tolerant of sin.  I want it to shock me.  I want it to break my heart.  I want to fall on my knees in prayer for everyone I love before it’s too late for them.

This hymn (especially the refrain) is so perfect.  I want to sing this every day of my life until I can start fully living it.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

When this world not only accepts, but glorifies sin at every turn, the only way to have real, pure truth is to delve into His Word.  Read what the only true Authority has to say about right and wrong.  We are simply His creations, wandering around pretending we don’t need Him, when He is the only reason we even exist.  He is the ultimate and perfect Judge.
